SUMMER HOLIDAY BOREDOM BUSTERS

RECYCLING BOX CHALLENGE

Have a competition to see who can be the most creative with a recycling box. Set a time limit and have a transformation challenge. You could make a marble run, a pinball machine, a treasure chest, a pirate ship - the possibilities are endless! Why not try the same challenge with empty milk cartons, egg boxes or Pringles tubes too?!

LEARN A NEW SKILL

Learn something new as a family. Visit the library to find some books on the topic and then try a new skill - Cross-stitch? Photography? Tennis? Or sign up to our watercolour painting course and learn to paint together!

GEOCACHING

Geocaching is a real-life, hi-tech treasure hunt. Search for ‘geocaching’ on your app store, find your nearest geocache and go on a family mission.

BOARD GAMES

Make board games for a family board game night. Make sure to include tricky questions, tasks or maybe even dares! It could be based on your favourite film, video game or even based on your family.

PODCASTS

Listen to a family-friendly podcast together. Check out this list from the BBC for some ideas to get you started. Or why not start your own?! Download an app called ‘Anchor’ and you can easily record and edit your own podcast.

THIS IS YOUR LIFE

Create a family 'This is Your Life' book. Add photos, anecdotes, funny quotes, drawings, holidays and special occasions. Or make a scrapbook all about this summer - add to it each week with ticket stubs, photos, drawings and anything else you find on your travels.

WRITE A ROYAL LETTER

Write a letter to the queen. (Her Majesty the Queen, Buckingham Palace, London SW1A 1AA). What would you write to her about? You could tell her about your family, what you would do if you were a king or queen or even give your thoughts on an important issue like education or climate change.

FLYING HIGH

Head out to your nearest outdoor space. Can you make a kite using only natural materials? Gather sticks and long grass for twine! Do share a photo in The Family Art and Craft Hub if you manage it!

STOP MOTION

Round up some figurines, photograph them and move them slightly, capturing a photograph after each movement to create a stop motion animation. Grab some popcorn and watch your stop-motion animation together!

DEN BUILDING

No matter how old we are, everyone loves a den! Whether indoor or outdoor, create a comfy space to eat snacks and chill out.
