CRAFT ACTIVITIES FOR 4-7 YEAR OLDS
We all know the struggle of trying to find activities for our children, which last longer than 5 seconds! Forget scrolling Pinterest for hours, here is a roundup of some of my favourite activities that you could try at home with your 4-6 year old. All of the activities require minimal resources and preparation. Download the free craft activity bundles for more easy activities to try at home.
PROCESS ART HOUSES
This activity will allow your kids to explore, design and create freely. Process art is a great way to encourage creativity.
Introduce new materials slowly over time; this is a process!
Cut cardboard into the shape of a house (adults to assist with this step).
Draw windows, a roof, door etc. with a black marker or pen
Bring out the fabric. Create scraps and add glue with a brush directly onto the cardboard and glue your fabric down.
Bring out the paint and add lots and lots of colour.
When it’s dry, you can add black marker details if you like.
MAKE IT RAIN
You don't need fancy equipment to be a scientist! Here's a fun cloud and rain experiment you can do using only four ingredients.
Pour water into the large glass/jug.
Let the kids spray shaving cream into the glass/ on top of the water.
Slowly drop blue food colouring on top of the shaving cream and watch what happens next!
Share what everyone is seeing and what is happening.
Did they enjoy that? Add more colours and watch what happens next when the colours start mixing.
SQUISHY BALL
Traditionally called a stress ball, we just call it squishy because it's sooo fun to SQUISHHHHH!
Fill part of a plastic bottle with either rice, sand or flour.
Blow up a balloon (just a little) and pull the opening of the balloon over the opening of the bottle.
Tip the bottle on its head so that the rice/ sand/ flour flows into the balloon. Shake, shake, shake to get it in.
Once it's full enough, slide the balloon off, let the air out and make a knot.
Using a permanent marker, draw a face and decorate your squishy ball.
Now that it has a face, it needs a name. :) Name your squishy and start releasing some stress by pressing it in all directions and playing with it in your hands.
