CRAFT ACTIVITIES FOR 2-3 YEAR OLDS
We all know the struggle of trying to find activities for 2-3 year olds, which last longer than 5 seconds! Forget scrolling Pinterest for hours, here is a roundup of some of my favourite activities that you could try at home with your preschooler. All of the activities require minimal resources and preparation. Download the free craft activity bundles for more easy activities to try at home.
DIGGING FOR WORMS
This is a fun-filled sensory activity!
The kids will experience different textures and use clothes pegs to find the hidden worms. You will need a large container filled with sand or rice.
Place the "worms" (pipe cleaners, wool or half-cooked spaghetti) in the container filled with sand/ rice and cover it with sand.
This is where the fun starts! Your kids can start digging up the worms with their hands until the worms reach the surface, then ask them to use the clothes pegs to place the 'worms' into the jar.
Continue doing this until they have found them all.
And do it AGAIN!
MOON SAND
Moon sand is an awesome sensory play and hands-on sensory learning activity.
The consistency of the moon sand is soft and smooth and also powdery like flour. You can mould it like damp sand.
Turn into an astronaut and go on an adventure! Mould your moon sand, squeeze it and sculpt it into different shapes.
Mix 1/2 cup of baby/vegetable oil and food colouring together. Skip the food colouring if you don't have any.
Measure 4 cups of flour and pour into a large container.
Mix everything together with a large spoon. Use your fingers to squeeze and mould and press and blend the oil throughout the flour. Ask little hands to help.
Pour your sand into a large tub, the larger the better.
Start playing! Throughout playtime add various items into the sensory tub, spoons, measuring cups, plastic animals and/ or even a tea set.
I hope your moon sand adventure will be as much fun as ours was!
EDIBLE PAINT FUN
Making edible paint is soooo easy and the colours always come out beautiful and vibrant! Paint outside if you are worried about a mess and clean up with fun water play afterwards. This activity is suitable for all ages.
When your kids discover that the paint is made of yogurt, especially if it is vanilla yogurt then they will start licking their yummy fingers!
Add a few spoons of yogurt into different containers and add food colouring. Let your kids take part in all the steps. Play a fun song during colour mixing time and mix to the beat! Mix, mix, mix!
Hand out paper and start finger painting. You can also pre-draw pictures together and decorate it with paint.
This is a great colour theory lesson too, ask them what "this" color is, and "that" one and when they mix two colours together what is it now?
